My sister-in-law recently was recently visited by her Argentinian relatives, who came to my house to dinner. This was the first time I had met this mother and child and I was immediately taken by their sweet and friendly nature along with the amazing cat like eyes on the young daughter. Murial had a lions mane of curly hair which framed her auburn, hazel eyes. She seemed completely comfortable around adults, unaware that she was the only child at the dinner party.
I gave her some dolls and toys and she played in her own little world until dinner. She was not a finicky eater and devoured dessert, which included chocolates, ice cream and cookies, with no fear of calories-I’d like to do that sometime!
Well, needless to say, I offered to photograph her before she returned to Ushuaia, somewhere on the southern tip of Argentina.
The next week Murial showed up with her mom and I started to photograph her in the natural light outdoors. It was an overcast day and I wasn’t achieving the brilliance in her eyes so decided to light her in my studio. After a few shots I nicely asked her mom and aunt to leave the studio do she wouldn’t be distracted. I have a teenage assistant who is good at breaking the ice as she is friendly and unassuming. After a few lighting adjustments, I felt a real connection in the camera capturing her natural, fabulous looks. Here are a few outtakes from the day.
